This work reflects a small but profound moment of gratitude during the height of the COVID pandemic in 2020. My son, just two years old, sits beside his little friend Bobbie on a fallen log, each absorbed in their own world. With playgrounds closed and the world uncertain, we spent our days immersed in nature, where the fresh air, shifting light and gentle rhythms of the bush offered comfort and escape.

In that moment I felt deeply thankful for the gift of friendship and for the beauty of the natural world that surrounded us. The scene captures the innocence of childhood, where joy is found in the simplest of things such as the warmth of a companion beside you, the feeling of grass underfoot and the stillness of a sunny afternoon.

For me, this painting is a reminder that even in unsettled times, the little things can ground us and fill us with hope.
